Lauren saw dolphin and the puffin on the trip over! Once we arrived we took a beautiful horse and carriage ride around the coast.
Apparently the original story was Irish lovers swam over to the Aran Islands to escape persecution. The stories are a bit of a fairytale but the views are breathtaking. The island we chose was Inis Oirr. They have horse and carriage guided tours for 10€ a person.
We ended our trip in the famous sunken temple graveyard for pic see the next post. Then we waited for our ferry in the best pub in Inis Oirr is Padrais O'conshaile. It's right next to the pier.
The land was once all stone our guide explained and the people spent many years dividing up pasturelands which have been handed down from generation to generation.
Most of the extensive stone walls were built only 150 years ago. There is a lake that opens up to a valley.
We stopped at a beautiful little café called Café an Chai Sleain. Its located right before the ruins but we will say the cups were slightly dirty but scones were amazing!
There are two small castles on top of Inis Oirr, inisheer, with great panoramic views of the Aran islands.
